Projects: Sewing Courses – for Women

  • Many widows have been trained in the sewing profession to enable them to change and develop their living conditions.
  • 18 students attended each course for 6 weeks (8 hrs. a week).
  • At the end of the course, each widow received a sewing machine and a certificate of completion.
  • These courses proved successful and helped widows find a job or work from home.

After the death of their husbands, who is usually the main source of financial security for them and their children, the widows are left with no one to support them financially, and lacking any skills, they find it difficult to earn an income of their own.

Many of the widows we support are illiterate; they left school at an early age and lack skills due to poverty, early marriage, and misinformed cultural traditions. Many of them possess the passion to become independent but lack the opportunities to help them become self-sufficient.

The widows were keen and motivated to learn. They have said they would like to continue at home to support their families financially. Some would even like their daughters to learn during the summer holidays.

This opportunity provides hope for the widows, many of whom can continue to use the skills learned to earn an income of their own and support their families.
