Education

Our Mission

We focus on removing barriers that keep children from going to school and increasing awareness of children’s mental health issues. Tackling both of these focus areas helps children succeed in learning environments, despite societal and personal challenges.

Education

Why’s It Important?

Quality education can make the difference between a lifetime of success and a lifetime of suffering. Iraqi orphans and children from low-income families attend public schools in Iraq. Orphans and children from poor Iraqi families cannot afford private schools; they must use public schools, which sometimes have as many as 50 children in one classroom. Public schools lack the staff and adequate supplies, so learning is at a minimum. In addition, disabilities are rarely recognized or diagnosed, so many children don’t even get a chance to attend school.

Many of these children have physical or cognitive disabilities, but no one knows that. Many are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Imagine being deaf from birth, but not one person realizes you cannot hear. Imagine being autistic and being subject to physical disciplinary abuse daily because no one recognizes that you may be autistic. These are challenges Iraqi orphans and poor children face in their lives.

How We Address This Gap:

Iraqi Children’s Hope created a learning center that supports public school children. Our after-school tutoring program serves hundreds of students. I.C. Hope’s Learning Center enriches the lives of these children by providing them with more adult attention and support. Your donations can and will help us empower these children, many of whom are without adult support. We also provide snacks for the children and consistently provide food baskets, school supplies, school uniforms, Eid clothing, and shoes for needy children and their families.

Since we started operating in Iraq, we have established seven education centers that provide after-school tutoring programs for hundreds of students struggling with academic subjects and assignments. These students were facing a challenging time in school, but participation in our after-school programs has resulted in magnificent improvements. We also provide snacks for the children and consistently provide food baskets, school supplies, school uniforms, Eid clothing, and shoes for needy children and their families.

The success that our staff sees in these programs gives them the strength and encouragement to do more for these children. With your generous donation, we can together do more for these children.

Amjed’s Story

Amjed is a 12-year-old boy who struggled with school last year because he had to work after school to provide for his younger sisters and mother. I.C. Hope provided him and his family with extra living assistance this year so that Amjed could focus on school only. Amjed has attended the tutoring program since the beginning of the school year, and he has been doing very well for the first two quarters. His mother was so happy to see her young boy pass all the mid-term exams.
